Matthew 9:1-8
Participating in the Work of Jesus

What does it actually look like to participate in the work of God? We often imagine it requires a platform, a title, or a "spectacular" miracle. But in Matthew chapter 9, a life-changing miracle begins with four unnamed people doing something very ordinary: they picked up a friend’s mat and carried him to Jesus.

In this episode, Dr. Jerry Shields continues our series, "The Work and the Way of the Messiah," exploring the healing of the paralytic. He challenges us to stop waiting for "remarkable" opportunities and start looking for the mats that need carrying right in front of us.

In This Episode, We Discuss:

  • The "They" Factor: Why God uses ordinary, unnamed people to do his most significant work.

  • The Cost of Involvement: Why we often wait for "someone else" to step in, and how to overcome the obstacles of time, risk, and sacrifice.

  • Persistent Partnership: The power of "grabbing a corner" and working together with other believers to bring people to the feet of Christ.

  • Greater Than Healing: Why Jesus often addresses the needs of the heart (forgiveness) before the needs of the body.

Whether you feel like the person on the mat today—vulnerable and in need of grace—or you are being called to help carry someone else, this message is a powerful reminder that Jesus is still in the business of changing lives.
